Turmeric or curcumin supplements lowered fasting blood sugar, insulin, HbA1c and insulin resistance across 59 randomised trials.
GRADE-assessed systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis of 59 RCTs in adults. Fasting blood sugar fell by about 4.6 mg/dl, with significant improvements in fasting insulin, HbA1c and HOMA-IR.
EGCG from green tea increased daily energy expenditure compared with placebo across eight randomised trials.
Meta-analysis of 8 RCTs. EGCG raised energy expenditure by about 158 kJ/day and lowered respiratory quotient versus placebo; the authors suggest around 300 mg EGCG may raise metabolic rate.
Eriocitrin from lemon (Eriomin) lowered blood glucose by 5% and raised GLP-1 by 17% in adults with raised blood sugar.
Double-blind placebo-controlled crossover trial in 30 adults with fasting glucose above 110 mg/dL taking 200 mg/day for 12 weeks. Blood glucose fell 5%, GLP-1 rose 17%, and insulin resistance and inflammatory markers also fell.
