Double-blind, placebo-controlled RCT, 54 non-smoking adults taking 250 or 1,000 mg/day for 6 months. At the higher dose, glutathione rose 30-35% in red cells, plasma and lymphocytes, and natural killer cell activity more than doubled versus placebo at 3 months.
Double-blind, placebo-controlled RCT, 20 obese adults (10 with type 2 diabetes) taking 1,000 mg/day glutathione or placebo for 3 weeks. Insulin sensitivity, measured by clamp, increased significantly with glutathione.
One-month pilot study in 12 healthy adults taking 500 or 1,000 mg/day liposomal glutathione. Whole-blood glutathione rose up to 40% by 2 weeks, plasma 8-isoprostane fell 35%, and natural killer cell activity increased.
